Whole30: Halfway There

I'm pretty sure Bon Jovi was on day 15 of Whole30 when he wrote Livin' on a Prayer. And that's pretty much the only thing Bon Jovi and I have in common right now.

HALFWAY. I'M AT THE HALFWAY MARK.

You know what else is cool? Sean and I are also halfway to owning a new home! Our offer was accepted, and now we just have to sell our current house. Please go buy it.

So far, Whole30 has been completely miserable I miss pizza, chocolate and wine please send help bearable. I will admit, I have way more energy than I ever had before. I've learned a lot about cooking. I've saved a shit pile of money not going out or drinking or having a life. I've discovered a lot of healthy alternatives to former cooking methods. My weekends are 100x more productive than they used to be. (If I hadn't gone on Whole30, I probably wouldn't be halfway to owning a new home right now. Seriously.)

With that said, I miss being social. I'm tired of being a hermit. I want to be where the people are. But where the people are is also where food and temptations are. But it's just 15 more days.

My favorite meal I've made so far is the one I threw together last night.

I'm calling it...Taco Bowl. Shrimp, saffron "rice," avocado and caramelized onions. It was delicious, but honestly, it would have been better with real rice. (And by "real," I mean that crap that comes in the bag that probably has more ingredients than grains of rice in it.)

Normally, I would have left the shrimp out and had myself a relatively protein-less meal, which is another great Whole30 benefit. It has really made me think about the meals I'm preparing. Snacking is "allowed, but goes against the spirit of the program," so I make a point of taking full advantage of each meal, ensuring I won't be hungry later.

This also means that breakfast is back in my life. (Weekend Breakfast never left, but Weekday Breakfast packed its bags a long time ago.) It has been nice sitting down each morning to eat breakfast together, so I guess that's pretty neat. I am starting to get tired of eggs, though.

This was insanely boring. Probably worse than the squirrel post. I'm sorry.
