Review: You - Season 2, Episode 9 "P.I. Joe"

Cute title.

Well, friends, I’m happy we made it through episode 8. Just two more recaps to go! Let’s get to the Penn-ultimate episode…

Gunshot. We’re back in flashback land, and Joe’s dad is dead; although, they haven’t made it too obvious who pulled the trigger just yet. (It was Joe.)

Back in the present, we face a similar question: Who killed Delilah? Joe considers all possibilities. Did he do it while he was tripping? He did have blood all over his hands. Or did he? Who else knows about the glass cage? Did Real Will do it? Is this a frame job?

He FaceTimes with Real Will and effectively rules him out as the murderer.

Later, Love comes over, and then Ellie shows up with a death threat that Delilah received. Love suggests Ellie stays with her until Delilah comes home to be on the safe side.

Back in the past, we learn that Joe learned the hole-in-the-wall trick from his mom. She shows him a gun she’s hidden in the wall, but…doesn’t expect him to use it? Real responsible, Joe’s Mom.

Joe runs into Delilah’s special friend and shows him the death threat, and her friend is like, “Yeah, buddy, maybe you shouldn’t be so chummy. I’m on to you.”

Later at Anavrin, Joe tries to piece together the evening he lost to LSD, and his coworker tells him that he showed up looking for Cheetos to take to “the basement.” Oh. Shit. You know who likes Cheetos? Delilah. You know who used to keep his glass cage in a basement? Joe.

Turns out Forty was with him too and wanted someone to stick a Grey Goose soaked tampon up his ass. Forty is lovely.

Joe goes to Forty’s house to discuss with him, and Forty’s mom answers the door. She knows that he knows about the au pair, so she hits him with a thinly veiled threat.

After talking with Forty, Joe pieces together that the two of them took an Uber to the storage unit, but Forty did not go inside with him. Instead, Forty went to see Candace. So, that’s good for Joe, I think…

Love calls. Ellie is losing it, which is fair because the poor girl has not only lost her father, but now she’s worried she may have lost Delilah too. Sadly, she is correct.

Joe leaves Forty’s, and then Candace arrives. They fight. Candace is like, “Wake up, loser. Joe is a murderer. How have you not put this together?” But he doesn’t seem to want to believe her.

Joe goes to dispose of Delilah’s body, while Candace heads to Delilah’s place. Then she watches the video Forty sent her the night of the LSD and sees Joe and the storage unit in the background. It. Is. On.

Candace shows up at the locker and manages to lock Joe in the glass cage. Then she texts Love because she’s an idiot. Can we start referring to this as the Beck Complex? CALL THE POLICE. LEAVE THE STORAGE UNIT. WHAT ARE YOU DOING?

Back in flashback land, it is confirmed that Joe shot and killed his dad. So this guy’s been a mess pretty much since the very beginning of his life, I guess.

Love arrives, and Joe confesses everything to her. She leaves, visibly upset, and Candace runs after her. When Candace tries to comfort her, Love turns around and SLITS HER THROAT. Which is ALSO the way that Delilah was killed. Coincidence?

Joe and Love might be perfect for each other. They can be like Hanna and Dexter and kill people together.

When Love returns to the glass cage, Joe is like, “WTF did you do?” And she says, “I took care of it.”

I feel personally responsible for the death of Delilah and Candace. I named the two of them as eventual heroes in recap #1, which was surely the kiss of death. Now I just have to depend on Forty…
