Quarantine Journal: Week 7

I'm keeping a daily journal while we're stuck in quarantine. To check out previous entries, click below!

Week 1: March 18th-24th
Week 2: March 25th-31st
Week 3: April 1st-7th
Week 4: April 8th-14th
Week 5: April 15th-21st
Week 6: April 22nd-28th

Man, I have been slacking on my daily recaps...but I believe this will be our last week! It's looking like we'll be back in the office here pretty soon. In the meantime, week 7...

Day 43: Wednesday, April 29th

The only picture I took today was of my deodorant so that Sean would know what kind to get me at the store. I am a sweaty gal who requires a VERY specific brand and consistency of deodorant, so I appreciate that he took the time to call me from Publix instead of just guessing. But I'm not going to post a photo of my deodorant, so instead we just won't have a pic of the day today. Oops!

I had a shitload of meetings - well, the new kind of meeting - today, and on the third one, one of the other participants said, "I don't think I've moved for three hours," which I totally felt. Apparently it was a meeting-heavy day for everyone.

I saw a fun workout on Facebook that only requires a set of dumbbells, so I did that before our Facebook Live HIIT class. It was from Kayla Itsines - low impact AND I burned almost 100 calories in just 10 minutes. Highly recommend!

AMRAP in 10 minutes, 12 reps each:
Glute Bridge (AKA Hip Raises)
Close Squat
Calf Raise
Hover Leg Extension (6 each)
Push-up (Knees)
Upright Row

Day 44: Thursday, April 30th

Our ping pong table is back!

Sean had to go into the office for a little bit today to pack up his things because they're moving him to the other building. Gone are the days of carpooling, eating lunch together, texting "come here" any time I needed help with an Excel formula...

Luckily, it's only temporary. He will supposedly be back in my building at some point in the future. (It feels funny to say "my building" because I used to work at the other building. I guess we've swapped roles for a little bit.)

Anyway, while he was at work packing his stuff, I had this weird burst of productivity. I'm calling it a burst because it lasted like seven minutes, and then it was gone. But I managed to clean the bathroom and start a load of towels! Yay, me.

The rest of the day was a lot of the same: work, workout, lunch, etc. I tried to escape to the reading nook (that's what we call our lanai now) for a little while, but these ladies had other ideas:

See that shrub thing behind Alli? She likes to rub her body all over it and then she acts like she's high. It is cute, strange and slightly terrifying all at once.

Side note: I came across this post on Instagram the other day, and I can't help but wonder...who pissed in this lady's Cheerios? I can't find it now. Maybe because the person who posted it was just having a bad day and later decided to delete it. But basically it was about how now that we've all been quarantined, dog moms better not try to celebrate Mother's Day because being a dog mom is NOT the same as being a "real" mom. I couldn't help but laugh when I saw it because I wasn't aware that dog moms were all into Mother's Day? Or that it had any effect on "real" moms if dog moms celebrate Mother's Day? Maybe I'll feel differently when I'm a "real" mom, but I honestly don't see the big deal in people celebrating holidays the way they want. In the meantime, I wonder if I'm allowed to celebrate since she only called out dog moms and not chicken moms.

Anyway, we also set up the ping pong table today and played for a little while. I had forgotten how fun ping pong is and also how terrible we are at it. Give us a few more weeks of quarantine, and we'll be ready to hustle some peeps, though.

We ended the evening with a virtual happy hour featuring a bottle of red from our trip to Georgia Wine Country! It. Was. Delightful.

Day 45: Friday, May 1st

Millie has been very bored without Michelle. I think she wants me to hunt bugs with her.

I woke up today and said, "OMG, happy May!" and then, "DAMMIT!" because Sean called something about a week ago...and he was right.

Every year, I look forward to posting an "It's gonna be May" meme on April 30th, and EVERY year, I forget. About a week ago, Sean was like, "Don't forget this year!" and I forgot. But then I saw this and realized it wasn't just me:

Sean had to go back into the office this morning to UNpack his things. Yesterday was packing day, and today was unpacking day. He has a sweet office all to himself AND his own printer, which seems to have cured the sadness he was feeling about being separated from me. Turns out it doesn't take much.

Today is an allergy day, so that's fun. (My own fault for having red wine last night. My anti-histamines are not strong enough to battle the histamine in wine.)

I made a lunchtime trip to Starbucks because I was craving some iced coffee, and my usual go-tos are still closed. Apparently everyone else had the same idea because the damn drive-through line was wrapped around the building. I came in through a back road so as not to block traffic on 41, but everyone else just...blocked traffic on 41. So, since no one was behind me, I let everyone skip me before merging into the line. The last lady I let in had her window down and yelled out, "WOW, THANK YOU SO MUCH!" and then she paid for my coffee!

I pulled up to pay, and the barista told me the girl in front of me took care of it. I said, "How nice! Well then, I'll get the car behind me," and then I looked behind me and saw a 12-passenger van.

I was like, "Actually...how much?" And the barista laughed and said, "316," and I was like, "Three dollars and sixteen cents?" And he said yes.

Then I read in bed (which rhymes) for a while before Sean and I hit up my parents' tiki for a socially distant happy hour. My mom sent us home with vegetarian shepherd's pie 🤤 so we ate that while watching music videos on YouTube when we got home.

Day 46: Saturday, May 2nd

Just a casual light lunch

This morning, I went for a bikeride/walk with my mom. It was so beautiful and a lovely way to start the day! When I got home, Mr. Productive Sean gave me the option of cleaning out the hallway closet or the computer drawer, and I picked the drawer because I thought it would be easier.

Oh.

I took this picture with the intention of taking an after picture, but that didn't happen. Just know, it looks amazing (if I do say so myself).

While I cleaned out the drawer, Sean pulled up the Hickory Hallow takeout menu and started going ham. We ordered a ton of food - like, consider this weekend catered - which resulted in the delicious lunch pictured above.

Then we didn't move for the rest of the day.

I did make it out to the pool for a little while, rocking a food baby in my bathing suit. I did a lot of reading by the pool until Millie kept trying to jump on me, which led me to escape to the protected reading nook.

I started a new show today too: Never Have I Ever by Mindy Kaling. It's really good! I have a feeling I will be finished with season one soon.

We ended the night with a FaceTime session with Mad Dawg.

Day 47: Sunday, May 3rd

No pic today. Oops!

I woke up with grand plans to hit up Publix before the crowds started. I was going to buy stuff to make biscuits and a bunch of veggies, so I could make some kind of yummy breakfast hash thing. I even checked senior and first responder hours to make sure I wasn't encroaching. THAT'S how early I was up and ready to go.

But then we ordered Uber Eats instead.

I finished my book today! It was good and a little sad, but also hopeful. Overall, I really enjoyed it and loved the author's writing style. Now excuse me while I read a million reviews because that's my favorite thing to do after reading a book or watching a show/movie.

I did a super intense workout this afternoon because I wanted to close my calorie ring before taking off my watch and going in the pool. I ended up laying on the ground outside for a long time panting (and wincing because I had sweat all the sunscreen off my face and into my eyes). I'm actually a little offended none of the neighbors called 911 or came to check on me.

Anyway, all that really matters is I closed my ring and earned myself a vodka-soda + pool sesh.

Then we tried to watch 60 Minutes, but Sean deemed it too stressful and changed the channel to America's Funniest Home Videos. A complete 180.

Day 48: Monday, May 4th

We were sitting around this morning, and Sean said, "That's weird. Tara's trying to FaceTime me," and then he answered, and it was Emma! Apparently she has figured out how to call people now, which probably results in her own little version of Chat Roulette because she never knows who's going to answer.

She sang Jingle Bells to us (Good lord, I just wrote "Jingle Bealls" by accident.) and gave us a tour of the house, including all the places she's smudged makeup on the wall. When Sean asked her what's she's doing today, she said, "Staying inside because coronavirus." And just like that, a three-year-old showed more maturity than an entire nation of gun-toting "patriots." Uh, duh, Uncle Sean. I'm staying inside. There's a global pandemic going on in case you didn't know.

I did a HUGE load of laundry yesterday. The kind of load where you just close the washer and hope everything works out ok. It did, which means I spent the morning folding my way through a mound of clothing. Once I was done with that joy, we did our workout, which was insane. One. Thousand. Reps. Ten exercises x 100 reps, PLUS 100 burpees to finish it off. Insanity.

Sean and I spent the rest of the day eating everything in the house because we were both bottomless pits. We had a big lunch - salmon and broccoli - and then, like, 20 snacks each.

We video chatted with Ryan this evening and saw his sequester digs. God bless our military.

Day 49: Tuesday, May 5th

We'll be eating tomatoes and peppers (and hopefully a pineapple) any day now...

Happy Cinco de Mayo! We got takeout from Alvarez to celebrate, and so did everyone else in the state of Florida. Those poor servers were working their asses off, and the phone was ringing off the hook. Even if you're doing carryout, tip your peeps!

Sean challenged me to a game of ping pong, and I was super confident I was going to wipe the floor with him. And then I lost 21-6. With that said, I suffered a pretty serious injury during the game. Sean spiked the ball and gave me a huge welt, so I think I deserve at least 15 points for being a trooper and not tapping out. We'll call it a tie.

We were pretty excited to make some margaritas now that I've mastered the recipe. At 5:06, Sean declared it Margarita Time, and I was happy to oblige. I am also excited to share that we experienced a Cinco de Mayo miracle today: We had just the right amount of tequila and lime juice for one marg each.

That wraps up week 7. No clue if this is the last week or not because we still haven't heard if we're back in the office on Monday. 🙃 I guess there will at least be a partial week 8 (Wednesday-Sunday) if nothing else.
