2020 Holiday Card

Happy New Year!

I had originally planned on doing a how it started/how it’s going themed card, but then I realized that I don’t really get that meme, so I probably shouldn’t. Also, I kind of realized that the year ended very similarly to how it started. It was all the stuff in between that was absolute insanity.

We kicked off 2020 with big purchases (a new bed and a golf cart), and we’re ending it just the same, although Kane isn’t a purchase as much as he is a new family member. (Of course, he is our favorite “thing” that’s new.) And that is my seamless segue into what I really want to spend this entire newsletter talking about: our sweet new pup, Kane!

So, my friends, I’d like to formally introduce you to our new pup. He was born somewhere in Tallahassee, picked up by animal services and then transferred to Largo. Within two hours of popping up on Petfinder, Sean and I were in the car driving to you know, just meet him and see if it’s a good fit adopt him.

I could tell how much Sean wanted him too because he didn’t comment on how fast I was driving one single time during the trip. (That could also be because he was too busy watching the Bucs game on his phone.) I was so certain that someone was going to adopt him before we were able to get there that I actually jokingly suggested that we have our friend who lives a few minutes from the shelter go adopt him for us and then just give him to us.

We pulled into the parking lot, and I bolted to the front desk and said, “IS OZZY STILL HERE?” (Oh yeah, by the way, his name was originally Ozzy.) STILL THERE, HE WAS. I was so stoked when they sent us back to meet him. It was seriously surreal. We had already looked at multiple hypoallergenic dogs before Kane, and all were adopted right out from under our nose by the time we inquired.

The minute we saw his smile, I think we both knew that he was our dog. The shelter is smart and makes you sit and listen to the behavioral and medical reports before you can actually interact with the dog. Sean and I smiled and nodded as they listed off his many ailments (poor boy has been through a LOT in his 13 months of life), and we enthusiastically said “YES” when she asked if we still wanted to meet him.

He’s a schnauzer, so he reminds me a little bit of my childhood dogs, Eliot and Max. He also lifts his leg like a gymnast, which reminds me of my Bailey when he was a puppy. It was immediately clear that he was ✨the one.✨ We loaded him up, brought him home, came up with 100 different names and ultimately landed on Kane, after Sean’s favorite soccer player. He is the smiliest, snuggliest, waggiest, chillest boy, and we love him dearly.

Cheers to a new year! Let’s get the hell out of 2020, shall we?

Love,
Nat, Sean & Kane

PS: Sean and I are both still at Bealls. We are happy, healthy, etc. The chickens are still alive and well (albeit a bit terrified of the new family member).
