2020 Scorecard
Approximately one year ago, I established new year's resolutions for 2020. And then COVID was like "LOL!" But, in keeping with my end-of-year tradition, I am still going to check in on my progress. So let's do it!
In 2020, I want to:
Cook more and expand my food horizons: I pretty much make the same three meals when I cook at home, and I'd like to experiment with more vegetarian options that are high in protein + low in carbs. This should also help with #2 because we'll eat out less often.
Finally pay off the credit cards: Making. It. Happen. in 2020. Mark my words.
Write more: I've said this a lot, but I think I need to quantify a goal to make it happen. Let's aim for one blog post per week. (I've said that before, haven't I?) Cannot even believe that 2020 is just six days away but very much looking forward to putting 2019 behind us. Let's. Effing. Go.
You know what? I did a pretty good job with these...
Cook more and expand my food horizons: We cooked WAY more than I ever thought we would starting in March because a) restaurants were closed, b) once they reopened, it wasn't safe to go to them, and c) we were broke. Check!
Finally pay off the credit cards: This one didn't happen. But honestly, I feel way closer to that goal than I did when I wrote those words back in 2019. Sean and I were hit with a huge (temporary) pay cut in March due to COVID. While the pay cut was not ideal, it did make us sit down and look at our bills and make cuts where we could. It also forced me to really evaluate my whole debt situation, and now I've consolidated it onto one credit card that isn't accruing any interest, so when I say 2021 is my year...I. MEAN. IT.
Write more: I'd say we can check this one off the list too. I wrote every day while in quarantine and landed at 33 (34 counting this one!) blog posts for the year. That's not quite one per week, but it is a 113% increase over 2019.
So, tomorrow is the last day of 2020, and here's the deal: I'm not setting any resolutions for 2021. I am subscribing to this idea:
That's not to say I won't keep working on growing, learning, being a better person, etc. But I don't think any of us needs a new year or in-writing resolutions to do that.
See you in 2021, my friends! In the meantime, here's a photo of my tired baby boy, whose first full year on earth was 2020 (proper introduction in the form of a blog post to come):
