A Dose of Reality

I don’t like to be bad at things, and that is the only reason I haven’t appeared on any competition-based reality TV shows. But while I haven’t spent a single second on the set of a reality TV show, I have spent several hours on the couch watching reality shows, and I think I have a pretty good idea of how I would do on one.

My two favorites are Survivor and Big Brother, in that order. I don’t know if this is actually true or just appears true because there aren’t live feeds, but I appreciate the purity of Survivor. No game manipulation, no stupid and unnecessary twists. Just good old-fashioned competition between a bunch of strangers.

(I will admit, I like the Big Brother twists when they benefit my faves.)

Anyway, since these are the superior reality TV shows, I’m going to focus on them for this blog post. Here’s a breakdown of how I think I would perform on these shows, as well as how I think Kane and Sean would do (because why not?).

Social Game

Nat

I think that I would be really good at this for the first week or so. Everyone would be like, “Wow, that Natalie is so nice and helpful and really seems genuine.” By week two, I would find myself in so many alliances that don’t know about each other, that everything would blow up in my face, and I would become public enemy #1.

Also, being around people all day every day would start to wear on me, and I would become the biggest meanie in the bunch. Then people would be like, “Wow, she can really turn on a dime. She’s not trustworthy. She’s unpredictable and unstable.”

Sean

Sean would excel at this component. He would be so terrified of ever saying the wrong thing that he would meticulously plan out all of his conversations and ensure they lead to a place he’s comfortable going.

The one downside to Sean’s game is that if anyone ever asked him, “Yo, we good? You’re not voting me out, right?” he wouldn't be able to lie. His honesty and straight-forwardness might be both a blessing and a curse.

Kane

Such a good boy! He would win the whole game.

Physical Game

“Physical game” sounds weird, but I feel the need to include both competitions and the physical toll the game would take on your body (looking at you, Survivor).

Nat

I would be terrible at both competitions and withstanding the physical toll Survivor would take on my body. I can’t not eat. I can’t not sleep. I CANNOT go a full day without showering. It would be a total mess and would ultimately deteriorate my social game as well because I would become unbearable to be around.

Sean

Sean would be good at this aspect of the game. He’s in great shape, and he handles adversity better than I do. With that said, this part of the game would also take a toll on his social game any time there was a team-based competition. He would not be able to hide his disgust with people who don’t pull their weight.

Kane

The best boy! Winner, winner.

Was this a good blog post? This one-a-week thing is a struggle. I didn’t even meet the goal this week and had to backdate this to make it look like it was published on a Thursday.
