Oh, hey.
All of my blog post ideas are wrist-related or dog-related, and I think I’ve pretty much saturated those two subjects, so that is my excuse for why I haven’t written in two weeks. To get myself back on track, I’m going to publish two today: this one, which will simply be a life update (it’s been a good week!) and this one, which is a ranking of the best beers.
Some life updates…
The biggest and most exciting one revolves around one of the previously mentioned subjects I have beaten to death: my beloved Kane. Kane is…
…wait for it…
HEARTWORM FREE!!!
I know that treatment is 90% effective, but I couldn’t help but worry and wonder if I was damaging my sweet dog’s sweet heart every time we dropped him off at daycare or had another puppy over for a playdate or went on a long walk. I am ELATED that that whole situation is behind us, and Kane can move on with his life.
This next update is also very exciting because it involves us saving a boatload of money. We refinanced! We have been watching the value of our home go up and up and up as the housing market gets crazier and crazier, and since we aren’t looking to sell (because then we’d have to become buyers, which is the other side of the coin I don’t care to be on right now), we decided refinancing might just be the move. Not only did we get our interest rate down by nearly 2% and get to skip the hassle of the appraisal process, but we are also saving a few hundred bucks a month on our house payment AND no longer have to pay PMI.
For someone who had no idea how this process worked two weeks ago, I am pretty proud of myself for navigating it. It only took me 29 years and 10 months to learn how to adult properly.
My final life update is about TV (a very large part of my life). Last night I watched The Handmaid’s Tale finale. If you haven’t, stop reading this right now before I spoil the crap out of it. Here are some gifs to avoid you accidentally seeing a spoiler.
First of all, HA! HA! FRED IS DEAD. And he died in the most traumatizing way possible. I am afraid to admit how attracted I am to Nick. I don’t think Sean would EVER deliver a man to me in the woods to chase down and beat to death. I really should have included that in our vows.
Also, I am feeling more and more like Tuello (Mark? Is that his name?) might be Serena’s baby daddy. Mark (?) was clearly hurt that she wanted to be a family with Fred and Fred Jr, and it was VERY easy for June to manipulate him into the whole Gilead trade. Was he trying to get rid of him so he could have Serena to himself? On the flip side, if Fred is in fact daddy, is it possible he got June pregnant too?
I also have to pat myself on the back for picking up on a pretty major foreshadowing moment because I think I pretty much proved that’s not my strong suit when I wrote those You recaps. Did anyone else have the realization that June was going to choose revenge and violence over family as she watched Luke and Moira care for Nichole through the window? Felt very much like a moment of, “Ah, yes, they all have each other and will be fine if I go off into the woods and beat a man to death.” Maybe it was obvious to everyone, but I was patting myself on the back.
One final thought on the finale: The guy who plays Luke is an OUTSTANDING actor. I quickly went from, “Ahhhh, yeah! Hang his ass on the wall!” to, “Ah, fuck. We screwed up.” when he sank to the floor with that look on his face.
His June is gone, and he knows it.
