Life Update

I have a few blog post nuggets in my Notes app even though I haven’t shared anything on here in a while, so maybe one day I’ll get around to fleshing those out, but in the meantime, I have a super exciting life update! (This life update is also the reason I haven’t written a full blog post in a while. This is all I’ve been able to think about for over a month now.)

Sean and I are moving!

I am so, so proud of him for landing a job in Brentwood, Tennessee! And because we are not rich/celebrities (and a super fun city is just 15-20 minutes away), we have decided to make Nashville home.

This whole process started back in July when Sean caught COVID, and it ended with a full-on celebration in our new city this past weekend. (Well, I guess it didn’t end; it actually just really began, but you know what I mean. It became official - let’s go with that.)

Sean’s final step in this journey was an in-person interview, tour of the company’s headquarters, and a store walkthrough. When he told me he was visiting Brentwood, I got major FOMO and decided I should tag along for the fun! And so, I present to you:

Our Trip to Nashville (AKA our new home!!!!!)

Friday

Sean and I took separate flights because a) he was booked on Southwest and b) his flight was SUPER early in the morning. I happen to have a ton of travel vouchers on Delta because I keep having to cancel trips, so I booked mine for $1.98 to arrive later that afternoon after Sean was done with his interviews.

We woke up bright and early Friday morning, and I dropped him off at the airport and then came home to wrap up a few things before my flight. I was dreading taking out the suitcase because dogs get so sad when they can see you’re leaving, but then I discovered something beautiful: Kane doesn’t know what a suitcase is. This sweet boy had never been left overnight by us, so he had no idea what I was doing when I started packing. No dread or guilt-tripping. What a luxury!

My flights were fantastic because I managed to land exit rows on both of them. A flight attendant came over to me on my second flight and said, “Are you Mrs. Ness-us? Am I pronouncing that right?” I said, “Yep, you nailed it!” because why bother? And then she told me that I was on her list of people to recognize and thank. I said, “Cool! What does that mean?” And she said, “Well, I just wanted to recognize you as a Delta cardholder and thank you for choosing to fly with us.” I thought I was going to get a prize or a free drink or something. Oh, well.

When I arrived at BNA, Sean picked me up, and I had a blast beating to death the “You won’t BELIEVE the day I’ve had” jokes because spending the morning on airplanes > spending the day stressed out in interviews.

I waited in the car while Sean ran in to our hotel to check in, and I managed to find the local Top 40 station on the radio. I was jamming out to “Sweet but Psycho” when I saw Sean hustling out of the hotel with his phone to his ear.

IS THIS THE CALL?

I quickly turned off the radio, and Sean got in and put the phone on speakerphone. IT WAS THE CALL! A verbal offer from Sean’s new company. Time to hit the town and celebrate!

We hit up Cole’s Kitchen for dinner. It was absolutely delicious and the cutest little place. But then we walked next door to the ACTUAL cutest place ever, a bar called The Greenhouse. Here’s a really terrible photo I took of this bar, along with a better photo of my drink:

It was so cool! It felt like we were drinking in a jungle. Also, the bathroom signs were a cat and a rooster, which was funny and clever. I peed like five times there, and I appreciated the chuckle each time.

Saturday

Saturday morning I woke up to the sound of Sean watching something on his phone. I rolled over and glared at him, and he said, “Oh, should I put in headphones?” And then he proceeded to get really into what he was watching and occasionally shout things like, “Go! Go!” and “You’ve got this!”

Did I DO something to you?

But then I remembered that we only had a couple hours to explore our new city, so I perked up, and we headed out to breakfast in Brentwood. We went to a really cute little place called The Perch, which had really amazing coffee and ok crepes.

Afterwards, we made our way to Nashville to check out The Gulch (got my wing pic!) and get lunch at Saint Añejo Cantina. We saw approximately 500 bachelorette parties during our time in The Gulch and about 700 more after we made our way to Broadway (my new favorite place).

We found a bar with some live music and posted up there for a while to enjoy some Bruno Mars, Aretha Franklin, Backstreet Boys...it was an eclectic mix, and I loved every minute. But then it was time to head back to Florida.

I was STOKED to discover I had received a free upgrade on both of my flights home: first class for the first one and Comfort+ for the second one.

The first flight was fantastic. I was in the first row too, which was great because I had to absolutely BOOK it across that airport to catch my second flight. The second flight was not so great because I didn’t have time to pee before boarding.

I have some pretty major bladder anxiety. If I am in an aisle seat, I’m good to go. I could probably sit on a ten-hour flight in an aisle seat and never once get up to pee. But the minute you throw me in a window or center seat, it’s all over. Pea-sized bladder city.

I was supposed to be in the center on my second flight, but a sweet old man absolutely conned me out of it while acting like he was doing me a favor by giving me the window...except there was no window. So not only did I have two people standing (sitting) between me and the bathroom, but I didn’t even have a window to comfort me.

There was tons of turbulence, so the seatbelt light didn’t turn off one single time. After holding it for over an hour, I thought, “Screw the man! I’m getting up anyway!” But then I discovered my two seatmates were in a full-on snooze.

...so I woke them up.

Anyway, we had tons of fun in Nashville, and we can’t wait to go back (FOREVER)!

Now who wants to buy our house?
