Simply the Best

Simply the Best has been stuck in my head since I watched the open mic episode of Schitt’s Creek, only I adjust the lyrics when I sing it:

Simply the best
Better than alllllll the rest
You’re my little Kaaaaane-o

He loves it.

Anyway, I finished Schitt’s Creek this week (hey, that rhymed!), much to my disappointment. (Why did I think there were seven seasons? I cried all throughout Happy Ending and thought, “That certainly felt like a series finale. I wonder what they’ll do in season 7?” only to discover there is no season 7!)

I want more episodes! Which I guess means they ended the series at the perfect time. There are few things worse than a series that goes on three seasons longer than it should, so much so that it almost ruins the rest of the episodes for you. (I guess there are lots of things worse than that, but you know what I mean.)

Anyway, in an effort to savor the show for as long as possible (I wasn’t ready to say goodbye!), I have decided to dedicate a blog post to Schitt’s Creek -- specifically, my favorite episode from each season. This will be fun because I’ve only watched it through once, so I’m sure this list will change after a few rewatches.

I’m not going to rank these because...how could you? But I will absolutely designate a #1/fave episode of all time because this one literally had me laughing so hard I was crying, not only while I was watching, but long after. I have seriously found myself waking up in the middle of the night, thinking about this episode, and then having to try to keep my composure so as not to awake Sean with my middle-of-the-night snort-laughter.

The GOAT: Baby Sprinkle

What have we done to deserve this incredible scene? A baby piñata is funny for a lot of reasons (“Yeah, don’t think we can smash a baby with a stick tonight.”), but just look at it! I. CAN’T.

Anyway, here goes…

(Obviously, Schitt’s Creek spoilers follow.)

The Schitt Six

Season 1: Allez-Vous

Pyramid schemes make for great content, and this episode is no exception.

Season 2: Bob’s Bagels

I think we can all relate to the feeling of offhandedly suggesting something and then having someone else latch on to the not-really-an-idea idea, and things getting extremely out of hand and awkward.

Like when a Mary Kay consultant is like, “Wouldn’t you agree this is a great way to earn an income while making your own hours?” And you’re like, “Umm, yeah, sure.” And then you get roped into multiple hour-long conference calls because they’re trying to get you to join their cult team, and the only way you can get out of them is by offering to be a lifelong customer, so now you have to order primer and hand cream once a month. We’ve all been there, right? Just me?

Season 3: Grad Night

Season three was probably the GOAT overall, but I have to choose this one for obvious reasons. (David + Patrick = ❤️) Also, can’t say I didn’t tear up when Moira surprised Alexis at her graduation. She is so over the top, and I LOVE it. She’s gotta be a 3.

Season 4: Baby Sprinkle

Baby. Pin. Ata. I can’t.

Season 5: The Hike

Again, choosing this one for obvious reasons. David and Patrick are seriously #goals. (Do the kids still say that?)

Season 6: Moira Rose

“It’s our designated grapes!” Another episode that I absolutely laugh-cried through. I love Drunk Moira and Drunk David.

Anyway, I look forward to adding Schitt’s Creek to my long list of shows I choose to rewatch over and over instead of trying something new. Miss you already, Moira, David, Alexis and Johnny!
